Narrative Essay About Going Back To School

Decent Essays
Going Back to School I had attempted and failed three times to go back to college and obtain my degree. Each time I made this attempt I failed for one reason or another. One of the reasons that I was not successful in the past was inadequate support. On another attempt, I fell ill and had to withdraw. The final attempt was not successful due to family problems. I put my education plan on hold for ten years, and then I made the decision that it was time to get it done.
Decision Making Process
The decision to go back to college and obtain my degree was made when I realized that I could not advance any further with my career without a degree. My goals were not obtainable without an Associate’s Degree in Accounting. I had set the goal to take the CPA exam, and to become an Enrolled Agent within three years. This was the first stage in the decision making process. I had identified and diagnosed my problem. I had to then weigh my options.
The second stage was to generate alternative solutions to my problem. I had many choices. I could stay in the position that I currently held, knowing there was not going to be an opportunity to advance. I could change my work field completely, and start over in a new field. I decided that going back to school and obtaining my degree would be the best decision for me and my family.

I researched many different schools. I did not want to go to a traditional college because my work and personal schedule would not allow me to sit in class on the available times. From my research, I decided that an online school would work best. I had to find a school that would meet all my requirements. After narrowing the schools down to only a few, I decided that The University of Phoenix would be the best fit for me. I evaluated alternatives and made a choice. This was the third and fourth stages of the

I was born in South Carolina, when I was five years old barely starting Kindergarten, my parents decided a big change for my brothers and I. We moved to Mexico, we lived there for about three years I started school there, so I never really had the chance on learning English. After I started going to school in Mexico, my parents decided to come back to South Carolina. That’s when everything was confusing, I didn’t speak any English which was very terrifying to me.…

My decision to return to college was purely random. There was no pondering over the decision; no weighing in the pros and cons, no thinking it through or any real thought behind it. I literally woke up one morning and said to myself “I think I’ll go back to college” and I made the call. I called the College of New Rochelle and made the appointment for the admissions test. And before I knew what was actually happening, I was a matriculated college student.…

Why I decided to go back to school? My reason to go back to school probably could be the same as others, but I decided to go back to school to have a better life for myself. In addition, to my reason of wanting to go back to school was also because I wanted to be able to advance in my current job or even become a court administrator. The decision came to my mind when I was sitting in the living room watching a television program. It was commercial for one of the health colleges where some students were giving testimony of the reasons they went to that particular college and graduated.…

I put off returning to school because of this very topic - time management. Bethel offers several ways to help with this issue, I particularly like the online calendar as a way to keep assignments and discussion deadlines front and center. I was traveling out of state for the entire Unit 1 cycle; it was a daunting task making sure I was back at the hotel in time to devote time to my studies as well as my work obligations. So, remaining focused on keeping professional and personal worlds separate and manageable is the bane I (like my other classmates) share and must remain cognizant of.…

When I first set my to go back to school, I told myself, it makes no sense going back to school if you’re not going to give 100% into everything that you do once you step foot on the campus that you choose to involve yourself with. To me it makes no sense accepting a position or a role that people depend greatly on your ability if you yourself don’t plan to 1) give them your all 2) enter that position with a pure heart and mind, with no ulterior motive, and 3) being able to take that position and grow from it. Every job I have accepted or every role I have committed myself to on this campus I always strive to complete these three goals. When you come from a country where no one expects much from you, it’s bound to produce a few citizens who…
