The myths that we “debunked” during lecture are really important. In the beginning we learned how to understand these cases and how to look for other sources to prove them wrong. When we finished reviewing these myths, it left me mindblown! I learned lots of information on how opposites attract, the lie detector test, and different learning styles.
The scientific method is something that we should have learned about in elementary school but we reviewed it again because these are requirements that we need to do when conducting our own experiments in the future. The scientific method consists of : Question, Hypothesis, Research Design, Data Collection, Publication, and Theory Development.
Descriptive research is a necessity for us to learn! We spent a lot of time learning ways of how to do experiments and how to describe the reasoning for them. For example: case studies : in- depth studies on a particular person Surveys; asks people about behaviors or opinion naturalistic observation; watching carefully in a normal setting 4. In my opinion, I feel like placebos are one of the coolest things I’ve learned about! A placebo is used in blind studies and usually taken by the controlled group. A placebo is supposed to make the controlled group feel like they are receiving the same treatment as the experimental group. In Chapter one, we also briefly talked about studying habits. We learned that it is important not to cram all your studies into one night and to also reward yourself. Chapter Two : Researchers have completed a study that our genes influence our thoughts on things like religion, politics, and unemployment. The parts of the neuron and their functions were really important concepts that we had to learn. We went over the parts of the neuron in depth during lecture and even had group activities so we had a better understanding of each function. I can honestly recite all parts of the neuron and their functions so easily! Dendrites: sends chemical messages to the cell body only Cell body: sends message electrically once it has enough action potential Axon: the tube that sends messages to the …show more content…
This was an interesting video because it showed what happens when you produce too much dopamine. You basically go on a “high” then have a bad “hangover” later because your brain will stop producing dopamine.
The difference between an FMRI and a MRI. An FMRI is taken when someone is doing an action and we can see all the brain activity going on. A MRI is taken when someone is lying down still and you can see the scans of the brain. I know this is weird, but I found this interesting and important because you can use this technology for experiments and see how people are really feeling.
Brain Organization was a really intense study. The parts of the brain are all grouped into three different parts which are : forebrain, hindbrain, and the midbrain. In these different areas of the brain are more parts of the brain such as the medulla, cerebral cortex, and the hippocampus.
Chapter Three :
The three basic types of conflict are a necessity to know! Not because it’s in our book, but because we actually use this in real life to help solve our own problems. The three types of conflict are : avoid- avoid : you’re screwed either
