It had been days since I had gotten a decent night’s sleep. No matter how hard I tried, I could not convince my son to sleep in his own bed at night. It was becoming my own personal nightmare. He was convinced that there were monsters living under his bed, waiting for the right moment to pull him under. I found myself trying everything I could think of to rid him of his fear, but nothing seemed to be working. We would investigate every square inch of will well lit room, using flashlights to check and double check the parts that remained dark, especially under the bed. I plugged in the $12 nightlight and made sure to supply him with his favorite blankie and a drawn out snuggle. It never worked. The minute the darkness took over the well-lit room he panicked. “MOM!” he screamed sitting straight up, eyes fixated on my faint silhouette standing in the door. I had to stay strong and show him I wasn’t giving in, and prepared myself for the fight. After what seemed to be my billionth attempt, I surrendered. I was far too tired and mentally drained to fix this problem tonight. I resignedly plopped him down in the middle of my bed and within seconds he was out. What!? How could this be? How could he fight sleep for so long in his room if he was so tired? I knew I had to do something different if I ever wanted to reclaim my bed. I spent that night fighting with a 4-year-old ninja for sleep. I was tirelessly rearranging his little feet so they were not squished into…
