I awoke to the sound of the baby monitor cracking with a voice comforting my first born child. As I adjusted to a new position, my arm brushed against my wife, sleeping next to me. I arose from the bed, only to hear more noise coming from the monitor. I woke my wife to go get the gun from the closet. As she grabbed the gun, the noise grew louder.
I grabbed the gun and walked down the hall to the baby’s room. The door was open, but as I approached it slammed shut with a loud “BANG”. I tried to open the door but it was blocked by something from the inside was blocking the door. I turned the safety off the gun, and pointed it at the hinges of the door and shot. The door collapsed outward toward the hall.
