My Past and how it has shaped my time in college Reflecting on my past and trying to think about events that have led to my current life path bring many memories that all started when I first moved to the United States. From that point on, I have grown academically and personally to be able to overcome the different obstacles that being a non-English native speaker might bring, for example constant translation of school material. But my parents decided to move to this country so I could get more opportunities to study a career. Moving to a different country can be very challenging, and it is difficult to adapt to a new environment. When I was about to start high school, my family decided to move to California and establish here where my father had a good job. So we left the life that we had in Mexico and started a new here in the United States. The first weeks of school were very difficult for me because I did not know the language, and it was challenging to keep up with the rest of the students in my classes. I struggled a lot learning English; I would have morning sessions, and after school sessions to learn English so I would not be left behind in all the material that was being presented in the classes. It was hard to learn the material for instance from Physics class, or Biology, but it was harder translating all of the information from Spanish to English so I would understand it and pass the tests.
