I never had any doubt about going. The only thing that has changed over the years is the type of career that I 've wanted to acquire. When I was younger I wanted to be a veterinarian, then a paleontologist, also a forensic anthropologist, and finally a doctor. But with all of these careers I knew that I had to go to college. Also my friend Joe and I would talk about the colleges we are going to and the majors we will take up. To me, college does feel like an extension of high school, almost like a grade 13. Instead of a place to further my education in a field that I enjoy. So far attending The University of Akron Ohio 's Polytechnic University has been a let down. I don 't feel as if I 'm experiencing that college experience. But I don 't know if it 's my fought or the schools and I have no friends here. Money is also a prominent feature in which college you attend. I believed that if I worked hard, then I would get into a college that I would enjoy. But I was wrong. I tried so hard my senior year to keep my grades high. I joined clubs to seem diverse, and went to class on time. But all in vain. I wanted to go to Xavier University as you know Kyle, and that 's all I would talk about. I did all of the necessary steps to insure my dorm, classes, and the school requirements. Everything was set in stone I had my biology classes schedule and my dorm ready, but one thing was missing. That was the money. Xavier gave me over $30,000 in scholarships and financial aid. Even that wasn 't enough. So after abandoning that college I decided on The University of Akron Ohio 's Polytechnic University. Now that I am here they placed me into intermediate algebra, even though I had a 23 in math on the ACT. While you only need a 21 in math on the ACT to place into college algebra. Now because of this I have to attend summer classes to graduate on time and

I thought people had to be insane to not go to college and have a successful life. The older I got, the more I realized not everyone had the same influences that I did growing up. My parents have always pushed me to my limits to make me excel in my grades, so that I would be fortunate enough to get into college. With this in mind, the main reason I am in college is because of my parents and the lifestyle they created for me without even realizing it. Without their guidance I would not be on the route to success.…

On the other hand, everything I was thinking about was college applications and changing major. Unlike here, Back home we had to pick our major at the beginning of our freshman year in high school and it’s really hard to change since all the classes that you take in the following years are related to the major you picked when you were fourteen year old. Good thing I had the opportunity to change my mind and start thinking of something else I really like and enjoy other than law-the major I picked when I was a freshman-. I figured that I am more passionate about science and meds since I did not have the chance to take more biology and science classes. The types of people friends I met did not care about school, they ditched and did all kind of bad things during our last year.…

I was still a naïve high school student who thought getting through college would be just as easy as high school. With that being said I had a little more trouble trying to be a successful student since I’m also an athlete. I admit my fall semester was terrible and not acceptable. After finding out my GPA was a 1.76 for the fall I had thought my time at Our Lady of The Lake was done. I didn’t think my coach would bring me back for the spring but over winter break we spoke and he allowed me to receive a waiver that would make me eligible to compete in the spring.…

Wesleyan has prepared me for college in many ways that I am so thankful for. In the contrary, I’ve had countless people discourage the idea of becoming a nurse because of the difficulty getting into nursing school. It was hard to hear the negativity about the career path I am choosing but I’m turning it into positivity and motivation to succeed. This semester, I plan to start my college career strong, and get exceptional grades to help my GPA. In high school, I was always an A or B student but I didn’t as hard as I should have.…

I told everyone that’s what I was going to be and wrote essays for scholarships and basically my entire town thought that’s what was going to happen with my life. Then I came to BYU and took Chem 105. I was pretty good at chemistry in high school but I struggled with that class. It might have been motivation or I just wasn’t interested or other things but that class made me decide that I didn’t want to go through with all the chemistry classes so I quit that path. I’ve changed it a lot of times since but I thought I might want to revisit that plan in case I just decided to change because I had a really sucky freshman year.…

I purposely failed the rest as I developed a disease called “Senioritis” and made the assumption that I didn’t need the rest so why even bother. Graduation came and I was excited, but at the same time I was scared since I would be leaving for boot camp in a few days. A few childhood friends of mine were also leaving for boot camp on the same day. One was even getting to be at the same boot camp as me. I just knew having someone from home would make it easier.…

When in high school I always knew what was next, and that was to attend college or a university. I never thought about taking a year break or going to community college, but once I was in college I started to rethink my plan. Looking back the only option I saw was college and that was it. I felt the pressure from my teachers at the time and my parents to immediately go on to higher education. Attending college for many students is the only option because you are told by your parents that is the only way to get a good paying job and a successful life.…
