I grew up an only-child and was devoted to all types of animals as if they were part of my family. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a vet. As a child, I would pretend to do surgery by stitching together holes in my stuffed animals. Becoming a vet has been my lifelong goal and the focus of my education. I’ve cared for domestic and non-domestic cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, mice, mallard ducks, hermit crabs, turtles, frogs, fish and Madagascar hissing-cockroaches. My pets inspired my passion for animals. I am amazed by their unique forms of communication, instinctive behaviors, and the trust given to humans who care for them. My pets have provided me with many learning experiences which have included: rabbits with abscessed teeth, an impaction, respiratory disease(s), a duck with a broken wing, and cats with heart disease and cancer.
In an effort to be close to animals, I sought employment at a local Chuck and Don’s food supply. I thoroughly enjoy interacting with, and educating customers about their animals. I

A skill that I have obtained over the course of this semester was learning how to do multiple tasks at once. I learned this because at Whiskers and Paws, I had to manage multiple jobs at once, such as caring for the dogs, playing with the dogs, supervising the children, and cleaning up after the dogs. This skill was needed during those times because it would benefit the dogs better. This is valuable to me because in the future, this will come in handy because I aspire to become a veterinarian. Another skill I learned was to pay attention to my surroundings.…
