My Love In Writing

I began this class with a deep love for writing; a love that has followed me throughout my life. This class helped to define my love for writing, as well as add structure and definition to my writing. It challenged me, and made me a better writer. I feel prepared to take on writing challenges throughout the rest of my college career, as well as my life career that is to come.

The first big challenge and new element for me was the APA format. It was completely foreign to me, as I am used to the MLA format. It posed an immense challenge for me in the beginning because it felt tedious, and so different than any format I had used before. The citations tutorial, and format tutorial videos were constant help during this course. I would constantly go back and view them to make sure the APA was formatted to perfection. I feel like I added a new skill to my arsenal, and it feels so great to know that in the future in grad school classes or elsewhere, if needed, I can successfully write an APA formatted essay.

One of those weaknesses, especially pointed out by my Irish Catholic Grandmother, was my grammar. I have always loved reading and writing, and they have definitely been subjects I’ve excelled in—but grammar has always posed a special feat for me to accomplish. This class once again challenged me in that area. An area, I think as adults we often think we can overlook and slip up in, but one I wish to do well in. The com-fit exercises and the quizzes really helped me to understand grammar concepts I’ve never really been able to tackle. Things like using commas, and concepts like parallel structure were helpful to expand my knowledge, and hopefully grow in my use of grammar. In no way do I think I mastered every concept, but I definitely learned more and was able to get a better
