My Goals For Secondary Education

Gabrielle Bernstein a motivational speaker once said, “Allow your passion to become your purpose, and it will one day become your profession.” My passion for many years has been to become a teacher. I never really knew exactly what I wanted to teach until I was a junior in high school. I was sitting in math class when my teacher asked some of my classmates what they wanted to do after high school. When one girl said she wanted to be an elementary teacher, my teacher went on a rant about how there is not enough math teachers and there is too many elementary teachers. Right then and there I knew I wanted to be a math teacher. I have chosen secondary education as my profession because I have always wanted to be a teacher, I have a passion for working with children, and I was influenced by other people in my life. First, ever since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to be a teacher. When a friend would come over, I would always want to play school and be the teacher. My creativity led to me using my stuffed animals as students while using copy paper as a pop quiz. I even went as far as creating a grade book on my computer to keep up with my students’ grades. I have always wanted to be around children of any age. Not to mention the fact that the younger children have always liked me. I have something that many people do not have and that is the patience to work with children of any age. Along with the patience, I understand that not everyone is the same and they do not learn the same. Therefore, it is important for me to be able to teach children of every learning styles. As a teacher, I will need to be able to know the learning style that best fits each individual child. It will be my duty as a teacher to make sure the children learn the material I must
