I can’t remember when my obsession started, but on this day, it would reach a whole new level. Since childhood, I had always been interested in anything with a motor and wheels. This was the day I would make my first adult purchase: a Honda VT500 motorcycle. I woke up to a blaring alarm clock at around six o’clock that morning. As I walked into the living room, my nose was instantly filled with smell of fresh coffee and a burning, cherry flavored cigar that my father always enjoyed. I walked into the room slowly dragging my feet, still tired from a night of tossing and turning. “Sleep any last night?” my father asked (knowing that excitement had probably kept me awake for most of the night). “Barely.” I said as I walked to the refrigerator and opened a Grapette. I sat down next to him in the brown recliner adjacent to his favorite rocking chair and took a few sips of my drink. “Better hurry up, the bank opens at 7:30.” he said. I began my morning routine just as I did at home; showering, shaving and finally brushing my teeth. At seven o’clock my father walked into the kitchen and began filling his thermos as I walked out of the bathroom. “Let’s go” he said, immediately cueing me to put on my shoes and head toward his white Ford pickup. “Wanna drive?” he asked. “Sure” I responded. I closed the door, pushed the clutch and brake pedal, and turned the key causing the engine to roar to life with an occasional rattle from the exhaust. I released the parking brake and we slowly…
