Personal Narrative: A Day At College

Superior Essays
Today was a slow day, but very education. I am finding that out that my time at CTLC is better spent watching than actually doing things. When I walked into the double door facility I seen the usual faces, and I greeted them as I made my way back to my little small cubical office. When I arrived at my office about two minutes after greeting several people, I noticed a small green sticky note that was on my desk from the day prior. The note was to remind me about the Homeless Alliance meeting at the chamber of commerce in Temple TX. I completely forgot about it, so I had to re-plan my day out in order to make the meeting. I was a little upset about re-planning my day, because I planned to go to the gym at three o’clock today. I guess that’s …show more content…
The windows were black, the building was brown and it looked like and school off of a horror film. I thought that the building was rather old and had a stench to it that I could not relate to. When I walked inside of the facility, I asked for directions to the conference room from the receptionist who did not make eye contact with me. She told me to go down the hall and it was on my left hand side. I followed her direction and it led me to the conference room where I saw some people that I recognized and decided to sit with them. I didn’t say much because I was to busy looking around to see if anyone that I knew showed up. Which no one did, the meeting started. There were about sixty people in total and I thought that everyone looked like they were mad at the world. Even though the meeting was called a Homeless Alliance I don’t think it focused on the topic of homeless people. I thought the meeting was boring and long, because they only talked about what they were going to do and how they were going to spend money. If this is what I am going to be doing in the future I am in trouble. Only because I do not like meetings, and I think it’s a waste of time, because people talk about what they are going to do instead of actually doing it. What I mean by that is that people talk about what they are going to be doing in the meeting, well instead of being in the meeting why aren’t they doing it now. One good thing that I got out of the meeting was that I was able to add something to my learning contract and I was able to sees some old

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

Like the other meeting I found this one online. This meeting was much closer than the others; it was located really close to school. I went with a classmate to this meeting. When I got to the location there was three rooms and the main room looked like a restaurant. Like the other meetings, I was nervous before arriving because I noticed that all meetings are different.…

Brown is a place where students have the freedom to grow, learn about themselves, and enjoy life. In all my years of school there was always someone looking over my shoulder, interjecting their opinions, or spoonfeeding me the answers. I want my college education to be my own. Taking ownership of my education is a large responsibility, but I am mature enough to handle the challenge. The collaborative atmosphere of Brown, where students work with, instead of against, one another, will give me the guidance and support I need to figure out the best educational path for myself.…

As a first time student attending Spokane Falls Community College, I honestly thought that the only buildings and areas of campus involving my class schedule would be of importance. Little did I know that one room I would encounter would become my safe haven. I remember the first day stepping out onto campus and all I saw was a giant riddle waiting to be solved so many parking spaces, buildings, rooms, classes, and students. The anticipation bubbling up inside of me was exciting and rooted with a little nervousness. I was searching for place to keep me focused on my goal of being a successful student, a place to refresh between rigorous lectures.…

Being the first in the family to take interest in college is already enough for everyone to push me in the direction to achieving it. I do not want to disappoint them or myself, I want to be on the graduation stage with my hand grasping that master degree. About me, others describe me as opinioned, stubborn and independent. Although I do not want to admit it, these traits all apply to me. Opinioned doesn’t sound as an appealing word to me I should say I like for people to understand my views completely also I don’t mind if someone does not agree with me, it just adds more depth to the discussion.…

For assignment three, I chose to attend an open discussion mental health group meeting called Alcoholics Anonymous. It is a support group for individuals working towards recovery of alcoholism. The location of this group was downtown Birmingham at the Advent Episcopal Cathedral, 521 20th Street North. Open discussion meetings are held on the ground floor every Friday, however it is not easy to find. The door to the meeting room is hidden within the courtyard of the church and not marked by a sign.…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

It was a blustery and gloomy morning as I trudged along the weathered pavement to the entrance of the church. My Sympathetic Nervous System was revved up as I anticipated what lie behind the faded and chipped paint door. Upon entering the room I was jovially greeted by a man with a melodious “Welcome!” There were about thirty people from all different lifestyles, huddled in the room around three long wooden tables. Men and women, some appeared jovial and others exhibited a flat effect.…

Even when my dad and I walked through the door, people started introducing themselves, asking how we were, and just mentioning how glad they were that we had come. I didn’t really have expectations or preconceived notions about the meeting, I didn’t know much about meetings, only what I read for this class, so I went into the meeting open-minded. Another thing that really caught my eye was that all genders, races, and ages were represented in the meeting. My dad said that every meeting he had went to with his dad, had been the same when it came to having a wide variety. My dad and I sat down at the conference table and continued to be greeted until the meeting started.…

This class and trip we went on reinforced the direction and changes I want to make in my life, and the impact I want to have on others. There was a handful of eye opening experience’s I witnessed throughout my time in the DR, and these things I will never forget. Throughout the trip I personally learned a lot from the people of the community, because they didn’t have the best living circumstances but they always had a smile on their faces. It was helpful to learn about the ethics and best practices in the classroom prior to the trip, so when I was in the community helping them I had a better understanding of the whole situation.…
