Personal Narrative: My Trip To This Class

Improved Essays
This class and trip we went on reinforced the direction and changes I want to make in my life, and the impact I want to have on others. There was a handful of eye opening experience’s I witnessed throughout my time in the DR, and these things I will never forget. Throughout the trip I personally learned a lot from the people of the community, because they didn’t have the best living circumstances but they always had a smile on their faces. It was helpful to learn about the ethics and best practices in the classroom prior to the trip, so when I was in the community helping them I had a better understanding of the whole situation.
The first thing that we experienced that was really eye opening for me was when we visited the girl’s orphanage. Seeing their living conditions and how they lacked so much yet were so grateful for what they did have, and how happy they were the whole time, this really made me think of all I take for granted. Also, it was

Going into this I didn’t think it would be so important to the kids but when I was washing off their feet, and then put the shoes on for them almost every one of them looked at me with disbelief, as if they didn’t believe they were really theirs. The truth is these shoes were probably only twenty dollars and if any of us on the team received these shoes we would never wear them, but these kids didn’t care what color or what kind they got, they were just happy they were going to have some new shoes that didn’t have a hole in them. I think the kids receiving the shoes also gave them some hope and joy from us doing this for them, because it made them feel like people are still out there that are trying to better their lives and make it easier on them. What I took from this is just doing something small that doesn’t seem like a big deal to you might actually make a huge difference in a person’s life that is less

Have you ever stopped caring so much that whatever happens, happens? I remember the time I had gotten in trouble by my mom because I had walked home from school. It was a gloomy day from it being so cloudy and cold. I was talked into walking home during school by friends whom, at the time didn't care about school as much as I did, cared nothing of school. I didn’t like it, but then again I started not to care either.…

I was very excited but also nervous about meeting my school mentor. I felt better once my SU mentor gave me background information on Mrs. Trotz, my school mentor. Mrs. Trotz recently got married and graduated from Stevenson University. I thought it was cool that she graduated from the school that I am currently attending. I couldn’t wait for Tuesday morning to finally meet Mrs. Trotz face to face at Carroltown Elementary School.…

Everyone has their own kind of sacrifices for better or worse. Sometimes we offer these sacrifices as a means to provide protection or some ray of hope. Tutors are known to be educated in whatever subject they tutor in as well as being extremely patient. Though some do it for free or may charge a fee, it always comes down to how much effort they put into each session and ultimately the result. I remember a particular event during sophomore year of high school, I offered to tutor a young freshman girl named Misha.…

Semester of Learning Experiences People most always say, “ Learn from you mistakes and achievements.” I would definitely conclude that is exactly what I’ve done this first semester of college. There are many times that I wanted to simply curl into a ball because of all the newness and unfamiliarity. At times I found myself doing just that, but realizing that I needed to toughen up burst from my comfort zone. I can say sleeping through your classes never the best choice, not going just because you find it too easy, missing a class just to write a paper for another class, and differentiating between minimal and highly important status of choices.…

My college life started in the summer of 2012, all of my hopes and ambitions were suspended in mid air. The apogee of the first year of my college life in spite of facing the stigma of my age group; was that of the support I received from the instructors in helpimh making my career goals obtainable. I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

I completed my ten-hour class observation at the private school Georgia Military Prep. The Georgia Military Prep School is located on Georgia Military College’s main campus in Milledgeville. At GMC prep I observed Ms. Jennifer Spencer's advanced eighth grade math class. Ms. Spencer has a decidedly pleasant air about her, a quick smile, and a brisk step that belies her ‘let us get the job done’ type attitude. On my first day observing her class, I soon gathered that Ms. Spencer always has a goal in mind when she sets foot in the classroom.…
