The book opens with rather extreme views/ claims on the post 9/11 multicultural debates. This book expands on the ideas that the management of foreigners, and regulation with land in Canada should be the responsibility of the white man. It seems the poem by British novelist and poet Rudyard Kipling; the white man’s burden has become a major inspiration for this book. An analysis of the poem reveals the author is implying that imperialism is best for the United States. The book may not go to as extremes as the white man’s burden, however the ideas seemed to be inspired by them. Another weakness is the fact that the book is extremely wordy, which significantly lowers the possible readers. I believe this book is at a much higher reading level than Grade twelve which is sad considering the ideas it includes should be shown to students at a young age to allow them to be more open …show more content…
It has allowed me as a reader to be more knowing about the issue. When I had skimmed over the book the first time, it was a complete outrage that people could have such extreme views, however as I had read the book in more detail through the March break I was more enlightened. Of course the book hasn’t changed my perspectives 360 degrees, but I have become more aware of their perspectives. As I go through the introduction for my ISU, I can see my intro was more biased and favored multiculturalism, however after reading this book I have learned to be less biased and learned to accept the points on the other side of the scale. The book is one of the most controversial books I have read since it starts with a strong point against multiculturalism but ends with a more understanding view. I believe this book was extremely effective and most useful in my ISU contrary to my belief in the rough copy of the annotated bibliography. Like the book evolved to be more understanding and accepting of why multiculturalism is good; I have been able to become more open minded by admitting their perspectives which is why I would definitely recommend this book for another critical
