Multicultural Action Project Analysis

At the beginning of this semester, when Shalin told the class that we would be completing a multicultural action project, I was honestly annoyed at the fact that it would require so much work. In high school, we had to do similar projects and yet I learned absolutely nothing from them. They required immense amount of work and I gained no knowledge. Although, once I was placed in a group with three other hard working students I knew right away it was going to be much better than my past experiences. This multicultural action project was a very eye opening experience and I am very ecstatic that I was able to do something to help make a difference on campus here at Purdue University. For our research topic, we researched how President Trump’s immigration ban affected Iranian students education and experiences here at Purdue University. We began our research by first attending a peaceful protest here on campus, that was put together by a local Iranian …show more content…
Our goal was to have them publish the letter in their newspaper so everyone on campus would become more aware of the issue. Sadly, the letter did not get published in the Exponent. We believe this may have been due to the length of the letter, it may have been too long to be published. If I were to continue researching this project, I would have liked to be able to interview more Iranian students here on campus. Learning about their experiences and difficulties due to the immigration ban has been very eye opening and has allowed me to become more culturally aware. Along with interviewing more students, I would also like to be able to spread more awareness of the issue. For example, I could set up a booth and share our research information and pamphlets with students on campus, or I could ask professors to allow me to make a quick presentation of our research to their

These authors are one of the best scholars that tackle the controversial ideas of diversity, and Canadian policies. It respectfully challenges the saint idea that multiculturalism is great for Canada, however it does not claim Multiculturalism is actually bad. It continually demonstrates the underlying capability, the conventional restraints and the miniscule disorders of the policies and blinding discourse of multiculturalism.…

There are many findings stated throughout the article. What I found to be the three most significant is to line up the multicultural/ social justice support and organizational transformation services with school mission and goals. Therefore, school counselors should always use strategies that are data driven to ensure achievement. For that reason, the most important finding is to be aware of NCS in order to make a conscious effort to implement work possible for multicultural/social justice.…

There was never a dull moment due to the wide range of diversity, talent, and personalities of students. I made amazing lifelong friends that appreciated my presence, ideas, and personality. The entire student body participated in deep discussions over a wide range of topics including beliefs, injustice, and conflicts in our society. Everyone treated other’s contributions with respect and consideration of their ideas and views. Each discussion and activity opened my eyes to recognize meaningful things that society normally overlooked.…

At Xavier University we believe in the “All for One and One for All” philosophy; showing that camaraderie and equality among all are still possible. One way Xavier lives up to its support for students is through the one-year long Smooth Transition mentoring program. I served as a smooth transition mentor to three incoming first-year students during the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to ensure that they have a successful first year at Xavier, I informed them about the resources Xavier University provides, including the writing center, mathematics lab, tutoring services, Ohio link, and much more. I also advised them to make good decisions and form relationships with people who would motivate them to succeed.…

When reading ”Mobilizing culture, language, and educational practices, Fulfilling the promises of Mendez and Brown” by Moll, L (2010) it goes on to explain the landmark brown v. board of education (1954) involving the Mexican and Mexican American students who lived in California. The Méndez family brought this case in relation to brown and cultural aspects involving what was happing to education at that time. From the reading I did not know how important this case was to everyone but that the law allowed segregation to Asians and Native Americans and did not go into detail for Mexican children. I found it interesting that when Gonzalo asked for help from a Hispanic organization they refused but helped later on. All Gonzalo wanted was to Change the education for children of the future.…

A new journey in my life began on August 13th, 2014 as my school principal cut the red ribbon celebrating the opening of a brand new high school. Little did I know, it would become a journey of growth and unique experiences unlike any before it, further refining and adding to my inner sculpture of identity and talent. I was going to Liberty High School, therefore it was necessary that I adapt--quickly, yet strategically. Throughout my life, I had never imagined that my high school experience would reach and exceed my expectations in the way that it did. I had the unique opportunity most people don’t get in life: to be part of a grassroots movement in establishing a culture that would enrich future students with tradition and values for many years to come.…

For the Multicultural Experience Project, I will be working with patients at Siloam Family Health Center, a Nashville-based clinic whose patient base is eighty-eight percent foreign-born (Siloam, 2016). Based off this statistic, a large majority of patients I interact with will be immigrants. “Immigrant” is a broad term, and immigrant patients at Siloam include those with refugee, Asylee, or Green Card status, as well as with those who have no legal status at all (W. Harrell, personal communication, November, 1 2015). All patients at Siloam have no insurance options available to them, for legal or financial reasons, and Siloam is thus one of their only options in seeking health care (W. Harrell, personal communication, November, 1 2015).…

As an undocumented student attending UCLA, I knew that I needed to be involved in any way possible in order to feel like I was taking advantage of my privileged of being a college student at such a competitive and important school. Being in this class since Fall of 2015 I knew that this class was able to create something amazing that will not only teach our community about our problems but also expose our stories to the public where at the moment we do sustain a negative meaning. Hopefully by the end of our exhibit and when various groups of people go to visit, their thought and sympathy for our group will change. With new presidential elections coming up I hope that our community will go and vote and hopefully make a change that will be for…
