When reading ”Mobilizing culture, language, and educational practices, Fulfilling the promises of Mendez and Brown” by Moll, L (2010) it goes on to explain the landmark brown v. board of education (1954) involving the Mexican and Mexican American students who lived in California. The Méndez family brought this case in relation to brown and cultural aspects involving what was happing to education at that time. From the reading I did not know how important this case was to everyone but that the law allowed segregation to Asians and Native Americans and did not go into detail for Mexican children. I found it interesting that when Gonzalo asked for help from a Hispanic organization they refused but helped later on. All Gonzalo wanted was to Change the education for children of the future. This relates to the Chicano movement in how they wanted to change the way of education for everyone majority of Mexican Americans. …show more content…
How students are being viewed when they enter a class room, having to equalize the learning for every student may be difficult coming from cultures around the world. I did not know that teachers had to go through all that for every student how they had to adapt and help learn each other’s culture. I found it very interesting that culture assimilation is of a student’s group which resembles culture of those of another group, absorbing the main culture of his/her society.
