Being afforded the opportunity to take a high school class in eighth grade was my chance to capture a part of the daily life of a “regular” high schooler. This preview was essential for the successes obtained in my high school career, aside from the fact that this experience was nothing like those forthcoming. While eventually going to a new high school, I realized there would be no upperclassmen to look up to; therefore, having no precedent was a challenge I would face.
This challenge was met with frustration by most. My peers originally viewed our school’s near-empty environment as a disadvantage. Did we even go to a “real high school”? Pondering this question was an instant flashback to being shoved into the crowded hallways after Geometry class at the old high school--lost in a sea of people. That school fit the standard of a “real school”, but to most, our new school did not feel that way.
