Personal Narrative: My Experience In Public School

Decent Essays
This year has been a crazy one. I came from a public school, not knowing anyone, so I terrified and didn't know what to expect. I struggled with trusting others, time management and battling multiple tasks at once. Luckily, I had a lot of practice throughout the year.

For instance when we had to record a News Show for Mr.Mora's class, I was faced with all of these problems. To begin with, we already had a crucial project to finish in Mrs.Nguyen's class—including our other assignments for our other six classes. So in the end my team and I had gotten our script written but left the video till the end. We had to work together to get everything ready and record everyone's part, as fast as possible. After all that was done we had to leave the video to someone and trust they would get it done before the next day. On presentation day everything turned out great, we finished it on time, got an A and passed all our other classes.

Also because I already knew most of what they taught in school, every project was really simple for me so I seldom stressed about anything. Now I actually have intelligent peers that can help me and that I can trust. Also finally school forces me to get better and to stop procrastinating so much. To sum things up, as difficult as life in Montessori can be I love it and I'd hate to anywhere else but there.

For any incoming freshman I'd just like to say no matter how stressful things may get just keep at and don't stop trying. In the end it's worth it and so rewarding to be able to say you accomplished it. Just be ready for everything that's gonna be thrown your way and get on top of things quickly so you don't freak out on due

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

In the seventh grade, I faced a large transition in life. The previous year I had experienced middle school for the first time, but I would make that entrance again. I moved from Texas to North Dakota, where seventh grade was the first year of middle school. I took on those same fears and hopes that I had faced before, but in an unfamiliar place where I had no one except for family to give me support. I tried a lot of new things that year, mainly wrestling.…

The first semester was full of trials that could have been prevented. Personally the first 9 weeks was easier than the second 9 weeks. I wasn’t so pleased with my last report card because I settled for average. During the first semester I forgot to turn some important, grade affecting, assignments in and sometimes I would forget to study for upcoming tests. Every now and then I would lack the motivation to even look at my school binder, but this new semester is a fresh start, and I plan on not settling for anything less than exceptional.…

Homework, stress and the concerns of time are already established as central to the mindset of students on campus after only two weeks of classes at St. Olaf. This reality reveals layers of the culture of being an Ole. As soon as classes begin, the feeling among freshmen is that now ‘it’ begins. The studying and stress will now ensue. What is still unclear is just how much homework is going to affect our lives and what level of work it will take to achieve the grades we want, whilst still enjoying life.…

As a child, I never had the advantage of having parents who knew all the tricks of how to live in the United States. I always assumed that I was at a disadvantage compared to the families that have been doing this for generations, however through my experiences I learned that it’s not where you come from that defines us; it’s where we go that matters. Everything I was learning for the first time, my parents were learning for the first time. Through my educational struggles, I learned about the American school system. Through my achievements and letdowns, I gained confidence in my actions and my decisions.…

My public school career was one filled with corruption, incompetence, and hardships. There were teachers who would fail you for no reason or kids who would try to frame you for things simply because they didn’t like the way you dressed. With the exceptions of a few students and teachers, I experienced some of the worst sides of the Loudoun County Public School system. I find myself glad that I learned all the lessons I did from those hard times because without them I would not be the person I am today. One of my first clear memories from elementary school was my first-grade teacher.…

I became involved with the math club at Spaulding after a friend in my home room suggested I come to a meeting after school. After attending, I realized math club might have been a somewhat misleading name. While we certainly did some math, it wasn’t at all like the math I would do in class. Math club was more focused on the competitive aspect of math. We would do problems to prepare for various competitions in the state.…

Suspicions are made in light of the fact that I had the pleasure of going to a private school that I had it easy and did not bear witness to through battles.
