As an undocumented student attending UCLA, I knew that I needed to be involved in any way possible in order to feel like I was taking advantage of my privileged of being a college student at such a competitive and important school. Being in this class since Fall of 2015 I knew that this class was able to create something amazing that will not only teach our community about our problems but also expose our stories to the public where at the moment we do sustain a negative meaning. Aiden Gutierrez was unable to attend school yesterday, Thursday, February 16, 2017. On this day, February 16, 2017, our family refrained from daily activities such as school, work, shopping as a way of protesting with our fellow community members the increased anti-immigrant sentiment that has been felt in the recent time. Our family stands for compassion and humanity and when those around us are treated unfairly, it is our moral duty to stand up to both the blatant hatred and the indifference towards the former. This beautiful country was built on the backs of immigrants and on the principle of equality. We cannot stay silent when the future of our children is at risk.…

From middle school to high school, band became a vital part of my life. It was all I knew, it was where I felt comfortable, and this was where I pratically began learning about my leadership skills. However, my curiousity grew when I was introduced to Class Council. I thought that there was no difference, and I naively thought that since I have been a part of a leadership role for about 4 years, everyone knows me, so I thought Class Council could not be so hard. I was terribly wrong.…
