Motive is the root word of motivation. A motive is a reason why we do something. Motivation is the level of energy, commitment, and creativity that a company's workers apply to their jobs. The Oxford dictionary defines motivation as the willingness of a person or a group to do certain tasks. It is important for a business to motivate its workers for many reasons. Communication is the process of passing a message from one person to another through various mediums. The mediums include oral and written messages.

When workers in an organization are motivated they tend to be more productive. Workers who are often encouraged to work harder by their employers tend to be more productive in the long run. For example, if a worker was to receive encouraging words from their employer after a successful sale, it is more likely that they will try and achieve more so as to be recognized again. Appreciation is an emotional requirement according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. When people are subjected to fulfillment of this type of needs they tend to be happier and more productive. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, it is important to achieve the emotional needs before it is possible to achieve self fulfilment. When motivated they also learn to appreciate their jobs and thus strive to be better at it.
