What is Vroom’s model of expectancy theory and what are the factors that make an individual act the way they do? We will discuss some of the factors that make individuals act the way they do. Is it that of low self esteem or high challenges in a new job? Model measures motivation Kopp said that an employee’s motivation is shown through the employee’s skills set, or ability (high or low), and the employee’s assessment of the challenges of the job (high or low). There are many unknow challenges when taking a new job, so you have to know that they have put all their confidence in hiring you as the right individual for the job. However; there are the small unknown obsticales you fear and so your state of motivation becomes jeprodized. These levels will show that the challenge level falls under high and the skills level is under the low category, because they are just beginning a new job and after some time goes by they should feel more relaxed and fit in to the environment. There are many different senerios that will effect a peron’s moviation chart and that depends on their confidence and ability to show their employer they want to do more. They are ready to take the job on with a challenge.
The Measure of Valence There are many studies on how to motivate people but many of them come up with the same ideas and that being, that the person has to have the desire to act, ability to act and the motivation to work. “Applying the expectancy theory in local public adminstration and not only, requires from individuals to believe that they have the ability and skills necessary to exert the work effort and this effort to be assessed in a manner that would lead to an increase in self-esteem and confidence” (Leonina, 2013).
