As she administered lithium to the patient, she took the time to fully explain to purpose of the medication to the patient. I noticed that after she had given the medication, the nurse remained by the patient’s side to talk about any concerns that the patient had about her treatment plan and how her day had gone. I noticed that the patient seemed very relaxed and content to know that she had the nurse’s undivided attention. The nurse carefully listened to each concern and never made it seem that she was rushed or eager to leave the patient’s side. I found her interaction with the patient extremely therapeutic as it seemed that the nurse had taken the time to build a trusting relationship with the patient by letting her know that she had her undivided attention.
I felt very excited to learn at the start of my clinical rotation. I felt that I was not as nervous as I was during my first rotation. I felt very accomplished at the end of my rotation because I felt that I was able to maintain a long and meaningful conversation with the patient that I had worked with. I was glad to have been able to learn about K.A.’s life and her thoughts about her condition. I also felt that I was able to be more observant and focus my attention to be able to absorb more information about the roles of the members of the patient care
