As a child I remember always going to my grandmothers house for dinner. I would make sure that my stomach was empty so that I could treat myself with some of my favorite foods like; spaghetti with tomato sauce and a veal sandwich with homemade french-fries on the side. After eating only a portion of the dinner my whole family was so stuffed that we could barley move. Still we pushed to finish the whole meal, not to offend my grandma. Looking back on this experience, I noticed that over eating is not only accepted but also encouraged and happens to be a common trend throughout North America. Food is now everywhere, from magazines to television shows. The market creates an idealized conception of food; this can be defined as food porn (Guptill, Copelton, Lucal 2013:54). By displaying these forms of media to the public, the market starts to promote a society where over consumption of food is acceptable. Not only is the market influencing us consumers through food porn, they also control how food is produced and distributed within our societies. We have no full knowledge of what chemicals go into our food, how it is processed or who grew it. Bring apart of the global north we only see the end result, we lack control over what happens to our food. The state also plays a significant role in what foods are accessible to society. They create appropriate food guides that construct how the society should be eating. Unfortunately, the market often influences the state to alter this food guide, which often inflates portion sizes. The state also creates and enforces laws on what foods they believe is acceptable to let into communities. Having these regulations really limits us as citizens from choosing our foods freely, knowing that there is no other
