The play follows a mother and her two daughters, their maid, and a worker on the orchard as the women of the family try to figure out a way to save their pecan orchard (El Nogalar). The family is out of money but do not want to sell the orchard to a cartel because they will just cut down the Pecan trees and plant drugs. However, if the family doesn’t sell their land then the cartels are likely to just take it.…

It was able to establish a definite mood which was joyfulness, but at the same time heartbreaking to witness the difficult problems these couples faced. Whenever the scene was focused on one specific person, the light would enhance that as it was only shown on that person. It conveyed the appropriate mood for the current situation of the scene that was on. For example, when the singing telegram man was ready to communicate the heart-rending message to Louise, the light shined only on him. Through this effect, it portrayed a suspenseful setting which foreshadowed what was to come.…

Each character was given a different color lighting, for example: Velda, was given yellow lighting to represent innocence, youth, and happiness and America was given fuchsia light in order to portray sassiness and promiscuity. On the contrary, the lighting on Eddie Stuckey was reminiscent of a police interrogation room, but in order to reflect the confusion of the audience; when the actress portrays him there light never shines upon her face. So, just like in the real world, there nothing explains his actions. The lack of extravagant props and costuming further exemplifies societal obliviousness surrounding Amish culture. The immediate immersion of the actress into each character more than accounted for the nominal set design and absence of…

The mise en scène elements of acting, lighting, and color in Steven Soderbergh’s Out of Sight (1998) correlate closely with the moods of different parts of the film, contributing significantly to the film’s storytelling process. In the analyzed shot, many of these elements work in tandem to suggest to viewers a turning point in the storyline. As argued below, the mise en scène elements of acting, lighting and color in the shot of Jack Foley and Buddy packing to leave Miami function to emphasize a major transition in both the location and tone of the plot. This shot lasts for about 25 seconds (52:31-52:56) and takes place at Buddy’s place, a setting with a warm, yellow hue.…

In the scene where Gilly is free from her ex-boyfriend fortissimo sound effect signals a powerful freeing of her from Jimmy’s soul that possess her. The lighting of Practical Magic is consistent with the interpretation of magic in general and the connection of romance displayed in the movie. Magic is viewed as a dark, somber, sinister, even evil practice filled with devil-worship and the lighting is symbolism to the view of witchcraft. By the same token, the dark lighting is used to exemplify romance for despite the curse the sisters are still on the quest for love. This specific film has not only piqued interest worth merit, but also has been a true inspiration of acceptance of all religious practices with acting, sets and location that excel in quality and degree, plus the lighting, camera angles, and sound effects brilliantly placed to indicate foreshadowing and intensity of emotion.…

In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a play by William Shakespeare, love and hate are reappearing emotions just like light and dark are also reappearing images. Light typically symbolizes love and darkness symbolizes hate, but Shakespeare switches the meanings to make a statement on love and hate. In the tragedy, Romeo and Juliet’s love is born from the hate of their families and they inevitably die as a price for the feud. In many instances regarding love and hate, these emotions, although polar opposite, actually have the same face established by Shakespeare’s contrast. This contrast demonstrates that love and hate can coexist as well as bring out each other, where love inspires hate and vice versa.…

Within the first five minuets, the audience can see how important the lighting is going to be throughout the movie. In the movie, the director focuses on lighting to portray the mood to the audience. The lighting would appear dim when times were bad, and brighter when good things were happening. For example, when Andy first arrives to the prison it is a very dim day, no sun was visible. As he gets off the bus he appears timid, Red says, “a stiff breeze could blow him over.”…

We often find ourselves disagreeing with those that mean so much to us over the smallest things. Raymond Carver write's, " Little Things" and portrays a real example of a couple in a disagreement with symbolism. The symbolism allows the reader to have a visual of people who are together that find some of the smallest things to argue about that turns into something much bigger. Carver does a good job of showing the repercussions when the smaller things get to someone rather than letting it go. Life becomes simpler when the arguing of simple, pointless things is reduced to a low amount.…
