Marijuana Social Issue

Marijuana is the fastest growing choice drug among young people. Marijuana has increased in popularity and has been found to have purposes besides recreational usage. Nevertheless, the usage of marijuana is still considered to be a social issue, and is still a topic largely debated. Marijuana is still considered to be a social problem because of the way young people use it. Other than being used to treat the symptoms of multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, epilepsy, Chrohn’s disease, chronic pain, cancer, arthritis, Alzheimer’s, and HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), marijuana use will be frowned upon and considered a social problem. This is because young people are using marijuana recreationally to attain a sense of euphoria. The explanation is the meaning people attach to the use of the drug. In some culture, such as the ones of Jamaica, India, Africa, and South America (Brazil), the uses of the cannabis is regarded as customary. These cultures do not only use the cannabis as we typically think of it in the Unites States; they use for more purposes other than recreational usage. In these culture they use it as part of religious ceremonies, medical practices, and social customs. In the United States, we are just understanding all of its medical purposes. These other culture view the cannabis plant as something magical. The second explanation that symbolic interactionism gives is the way the individuals come to use the drug. Symbolic interactionist do not believe that an individual simply becomes a drug user. They believe that people learn to use a drug. This view would related back to a child observing their parents use marijuana, and then developing that mentality to accept marijuana as an acceptable drug to use when one needs to escape the pressure of their
