We are expected to practice on our own time and have it ready for the weekly rehearsals. I played and marched in several shows throughout the fall marching season. I also participated in the concert band, which is all the band students and we play higher difficulty music. It’s different because not all band students are in marching band and the woodwinds are given a more important role in the music. Also I was able to join creative writing club as one of the founding members.…
Rubbing Off in the 110 I’ve always been involved with marching band most of my time in school starting in 5th grade. I fell in love with it. I consider marching band an art form. The band marches in many different designs or a patterns on the field while playing music, and for the Marching 110, they perform a dance at the end. For the rubbings project, I wanted to celebrate my time here at Ohio University and give thanks to The Most Exciting Band In The Land.…

“Sport- an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.” (http://dictionary.reference.com). Many activities, ranging from cheer, to golf, to ping pong, have been fighting for the title of “Sport”. One activity’s fight, however, is not often in the public eye- Marching band. For years, marching bands have entertained crowds at football games, marched in parades, and been at pep rallies. In 1972, the Drum Corps International was created, and since then, marching bands have taken a more competitive turn.…
This year, our Marching Band got the chance to go to Nashville, Tennessee where we encountered the different musical culture they had. We attended The Grand Ole Opry, a concert where many talented country musicians performed live in a giant hall. It was a fascinating experience when we learned about the musician’s lives through their music and what they consider everyday aspect of their lives that we don’t have farther up north. One of the band members got the opportunity to participate in a dance off onstage during one of the breaks, something the whole band celebrated in camaraderie. A museum with all things country music, “Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum” held all kinds of pieces from various dresses and instruments of musicians from…
Ever since I joined band in 4th grade, people have been talking about how excited they were to join marching band. At band day in 5th and 6th grade, everyone else shared how they couldn't wait until they were a 9th grader and could finally be able to perform and play in the stands like we saw the marching band do many times. In 7th and 8th grade, we had a watered down version of marching band that only played two parades. While I was glad to get snare drum both years, the exhilaration was never there, and I came very close to not joining marching band. But against my will, I ended up auditioning for drumline in April and I got the cymbals.…
In eighth grade, I decided to audition for GMEA District Honor Band. The audition itself was nerve-racking, but I made it and was able to get fourth chair. This was one of the greatest experiences of my life because I got to spend all day studying music with others who shared the same passion as I do. Last year was my first year in marching band. At the end of the year at the school's spring concert, I was awarded the Wildcat Rookie of the Year, which was a huge achievement for my.…
One of the great things in today’s world is how many different ways one can express oneself. A few prime examples are writing, painting, debating, and music. I personally express myself is through playing my trombone and creating music. Whether it is in Marching Band, Symphonic Band, or the Church Orchestra I show the world how I feel, think, and believe.…
When I go college, I do not want to give up my favorite activities, but rather, build upon established interests and create new ones. Honestly, I do not know all of the activities in which I may participate while attending university. This is not because I do not know what I like; I just that I have not been exposed to these things yet. Although my personality is not fully molded, I actively search for novel and fulfilling experiences relating to music, food, and travel.…
The next step in that process is college. Marching band is hands down one of the biggest influences in my life. It has impacted me in a positive way from friendships that will last a lifetime to experiences I will never forget. Focused determination paid off. Junior year I was selected baritone section leader.…
Interview Question I can contribute my time, hard working attitude, and knowledge of music as a leader in this program. I have spent countless hours for band from practicing, to teaching others, and also several other things. I spend most of my time doing something band related, but I would be glad to more to benefit the band. I can use my hard working attitude to do whatever is needed of me. I can use my knowledge of music to teach others how to be better musicians and show improvement.…
Abstract Over the past few years, people had been talking about marching band not being considered as a sport. When somebody says sport we right away think about all the famous sports for example, football, basketball, soccer, and many more. Marching band should be considered as a sport for a numerous reason. Marching band fits in all the category that a sport follows in.…
During my 8th grade year, I had joined band searching for a chance of belonging. I had discovered, however, that band is more than just having a group of people to hang out with. Since I joined about two years later than most, practicing became a requirement. Every night I went home and rehearsed for hours, just so I wouldn’t fall further behind. About 500 blown-out reeds and two broken oboes later…
People are always looking for someone to lead them. We all need someone to look to for help or inspiration, whether it be a movie star, author, or even a teacher. Nowadays leadership is key to success. Just recently I learned how true the previous statement is. As part of the marching band, I play the alto saxophone and have had to deal with poor leadership within the section.…
. The human brain has 100 billion neurons, each neuron connected to 10 thousand other neurons. Sitting on your shoulders is the most complicated object in the known universe. – Michio Kaku This quote isn’t classified as a motivational quote and it may not make sense to others why I’d choose this one.…
