Honor Band Accomplishments

In eighth grade, I decided to audition for GMEA District Honor Band. The audition itself was nerve-racking, but I made it and was able to get fourth chair. This was one of the greatest experiences of my life because I got to spend all day studying music with others who shared the same passion as I do. Last year was my first year in marching band. At the end of the year at the school's spring concert, I was awarded the Wildcat Rookie of the Year, which was a huge achievement for my. I was skeptical that I would actually like color guard but at the first clinic, I knew I had found a family and exciting activity to pursue. Watching the upperclassmen toss rifles, sabers, and flags with such ease and confidence made me excited to learn and achieve that level of confidence. This year will be my fourth year in marching band, I am still in Color Guard and it is easily one of the activities I’m most passionate about. My love to perform on the marching field takes away the anxiety I usually have, throughout the years my confidence has risen…

My time at Barnegat High School has helped me to become who I am today and will most defiantly impact what I will do in the future. The teachers and my peers have all been an influence on my life and during the four years that I spent at the school, I have done some things for the school and the community as a way to thank them for giving me the opportunities that they have. It was they who pushed me to keep trying and striding to succeed and without them, I would not have accomplished what I have today. One of the things that I am most proud of doing is helping to bring new clubs and activities to Barnegat High School. This year, with the help of other students and advisors, a new club made it into the ranks of the diverse sea of clubs and groups that already exist.…

In the words of John F. Kennedy, “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” As my final days of high school are coming to a close, I’ve come to recognize, like President Kennedy, that leadership and learning go hand in hand. Learning shapes how you lead as a person, and I can attest to that through my senior year in the Montour Spartan Marching Band. This marching band season, I applied and became the section leader for the flutes and piccolos.…

My heart is beating quickly, my mouth is dry, and as I look at the familiar faces in front of me, their judging eyes make them seem like strangers. I struggle to get them to quiet down and we begin our hour long sectional, which I have to lead. It was the first day of my third year in marching band and at the end of last year, with the graduation of the previous section leader, I was granted his important position. Being a competitive person, I was extremely self conscience of how my section made me look. I hated being blamed for their errors and was exceedingly harsh towards them during sectionals.…

When asked the question, “what is your biggest accomplishment in the area of leadership,” the same answer comes to mind every time. It is an easy question for me to answer because of the tremendous impact this experience had on my life. In my junior year of high school, the SkillsUSA advisors repeatedly approached me about the SkillsUSA Pennsylvania Western Region Leadership Conference. I didn’t know what it was until they eventually pulled me and a few top students from my school aside and told us about having a “tryout” to see who would best fit to become an officer at the leadership conference. Each of us presented a prepared speech and an extemporaneous speech.…

We took fourth place at the state championship at Glendale Community College, and we had the best music performance of the division three bands. We were sophisticated and competitive. We even won the Esprit de’ Corps for being a good audience and not participating in the frequent attempts at doing the wave. As much fun as that was, the best part of that year was the trip to California. To begin, I would like to first start off by saying, that it has been a goal of mine since day one in entering this band program, of being a section leader for the high brass section. Coming into this program my parents’ have told me several stories of when they were in band, and this influenced and greatly bucked me up into pursuing band in high school.
