Love At First Sight Analysis

“Love at First Sight” “Is Love at first sight realistic” and “are soulmates real,” are questions that are not fully answered and are still questioned by science. Imagine that your soul mate, or if you don’t believe in them, the person you’re “destined” to be with has crossed paths with you manifold times before finally, formally meeting them. Ironic is it not? Fate is supposed to bring the two individuals together, yet the first time you informally meet, if it ever comes into being, you may not remember at all. This is how Wislawa Szymborska perceives love at first sight. In the poem “Love at First Sight,” Wislawa Szymborska uses multiple examples of irony, a thought-provoking interpretation of chance and fate to bring a humorous tone to …show more content…
In “Love at First Sight” by Wislawa Szymborska, Szymborska uses a humorous tone to the topic of chance and fate. “They’re both convinced that a sudden passion joined them. Such certainty is beautiful, but uncertainty is more beautiful still.” (Szymborska 1-4). Szymborska uses a humorous tone to address how the couples uncertainty is beautiful or the couple wasn’t certain about each other before, due to the fact they had never met, but now they are certain in an uncertain world. “They’d be amazed to hear that Chance has been toying with them now for years.” (Szymborska 17-19). The couple wouldn’t be amazed to hear that they were being toyed with by chance for many years because of the fact that they met by love at first sight. My interpretation of this though, is that since they are destined to be together by chance, the situation becomes clear that if the couple knew that they were destined to be, the setting would show that the couple would be amazed. “Not quite ready yet to become their Destiny, it pushed them close, drove them apart, it barred their path, stifling a laugh, and then leapt aside.” (Szymborska 20-25). This time chance is showing a more childish side. Szymborska shows a more playful, mischievous, and lighthearted side of chance bringing two people together by love at first sight. “Who knows, maybe the ball that vanished into childhood’s …show more content…
Szymborska’s main point in this poem “Love at First Sight” is that yes, we may be destined to do certain things or meet certain people, but we also have the freedom to achieve our own goals and make our own destiny. “One night perhaps, the same dream, grow hazy by morning.” One reason why this poem is related to soul mates, or two people destined to be together; and some may disagree, is because of the two people dreaming about each other, before ever meeting. This is a common sign that the couple is suppose to meet by fate. Even if the couple does not remember ever dreaming about each other. “Who knows, maybe the ball that vanished into childhood’s thicket?” Countless times, people who are put together by fate may have met during their childhood, or sometime long ago. Other times, an event that tries to bring the two people together comes into play. “They’d be amazed to hear that chance has been toying with them now for years.” (Szymborska 17-19). Usually, in the concept of soul mates, or two people destined to be together, chance plays a big role. Chance may “interfere” with the two people before they finally meet. In Wislawa Szymborska’s poem, “Love at First Sight.” She used many different examples of irony and humor. The poem 's main theme regarding love at first sight had a deeper meaning and was very thoughtful. Although one may not agree, my interpretation

Wharton uses irony as a way to draw the reader in, with twists and turns and flare that make the story unique and addicting. Imagine the story without irony; it would be a story about a love triangle that ended in a pregnancy and was a secret for many years until the two women talked. It seems very dry, and seems like every other love triangle story. Although, it is a typical love triangle/affair story, the irony makes it stand out and gives it humor.…

Romeo's relationship with love was in such a way that it wasn't fully mature and ready for a long life of love, it was still budding and needing time to grow and understand the actual meaning of love. Romeo thought that he was ready to love and marry, but he was most definitely not, he was blinded by his pure immaturity to make such decisions. “From love’s weak childish bow, she lives uncharmed.” (1.1.205) Romeo even says himself that Rosaline, the one who he was first so in love with couldn’t affected by weak and childish love. One can use what he says to translate onto Romeo, that his love was weak and childish. We can look at so many studies and find that children's brains do not gain the ability to make good choices until they are adults.…

“Where there is love there is life” stated Mahatma Gandhi which means without love people will be miserable and life would be miserable without love. In English class we read a chapter from The Road Less Traveled titled “The Myth of Romantic Love” by Dr. Scott Peck. The author stated some very appealing topics about the unrealistic ideas of real love. I believe that love can last a long time, but you need both spouses to function. We all love the stories of the prince and the princess getting married and having a family and living happily ever after.…

(BERTOLDI, 2012, p.16) The motif of love is constantly present in the story from the beginning. The reason for the quest of the protagonists and the main discovery in the narration (in the beginning) is a love letter. The exploration of the mystery of the secret letters becomes an exploration of the romantic love of the two people writing them. However, the two researchers, Roland and Maud do not believe in such epic love as the one they started to discover through letters. Even though they seem to be sceptical about love matters in the beginning, they cannot help it but to fall for each other in the…
