Local restaurants are seen to offer tangible economic benefits to the local economy. The third reason to eat local is that the money students spend benefits the area where they live. More money goes into the local economy. This means that eating locally creates an economic stimulus that benefits students directly in the long run. Several studies have shown that when you buy from an independent, locally-owned business, rather than a nationally-owned business, significantly more of your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses, service providers, and farms - continuing to strengthen the economic base of the community. Moreover, according to Webb (2006), the money paid to local governments by small, local businesses is used for many things, including the financing of roads, public schools, sidewalks and parks. In addition, those tax help to fund additional public service workers such as police officers and firefighters. A local restaurant is a popular name in students when it comes to dinning; it's a public place which opens to all for selling food and beverage on a commercial basis. It provides a high level of services, quality, and facilities for students. A local restaurant charge reasonable prices for food and drinks in order to satisfy customers. Money paid by the customer’s remains in the local economy. The local restaurant plays a pivotal role in maintaining the ideal food choice of the customer’s. Consuming fast food is not an ideal choice. For this reason, it is important to choose local restaurant meals over fast foods due to the benefits that come along with it. It can, therefore, be said that Silliman students patronize local restaurants over fast food restaurants due to healthier food, cost difference and local economic growth
