It became popular in the 19th century and famous world leaders under this theory are Abraham Lincoln, Julius Caesar, Mahatma Gandhi and Alexander the Great. These examples contribute to the notion that great leaders are not made, but born, as they have the gift to take control of any situation that comes in their way and be capable of leading groups of people into safety and success. Great man’s theory shows that leadership can be inborn and there is no possibility on being crafted through a man years’. The famous historian Thomas Carlyle, involved in the great man theory of leadership believed that the combination of decent personality and godly motivation creates an effectual leader. This theory refers to a transaction between the leader and his followers. The leader finds a way to align the situation, as rewarding or punishing his followers due to the leader-assigned task. Transactional leadership theory can create beneficial relationships in the group, as through individual or teamwork tasks, the group maximizes its organization abilities and the pleasurable experiences. This theory applies only to increasing the group’s strengths.
The transformational leadership theory is based on rules. Regulations are flexible, regarding the team’s capabilities and preferences.
