Leadership And The Graduate Nursing Role Essay
The result of the quiz showed that my leadership style was Participative Leadership. Accounting to About.com Psychology (n.d.), participative leaders accept input from group members when making decisions and solving problems, but the leader retains the final say when choices are made. Group members tend to be encouraged and motivated by this style of leadership. This style of leadership often leads to more effective and accurate decisions, since no leader can be an expert in all areas. Input from group members with specialized knowledge and expertise creates a more complete basis for decision-making.
Participative Leadership fits perfectly with my personality. I am a person who prefers harmony in my environments (home, school, or workplace) and relationship. When a conflict occurs, I want to find a solution for it, and I brainstorm with all parties and listen to them. I am a person who respect others and know my limitation. I tend to trust people when they doing their jobs but I will finalize the work.
Leadership is important to graduate level nurse as they are expected to be the experts in what they do: clinical skills, direct care, critical thinking, and teaching; moreover they are to be dependable and trust worthy.
