This means that Latinos have very little power when it comes to influencing the media in how they are represented. “Univision has come a long way since it began. Today, it is by far the largest Spanish-language media company in the U.S. when it comes to revenues, ratings and stations owned” (Matsa). Although a vast majority of Media companies are English, there are a few Spanish speaking ones who have struggled to stay afloat. Univision and until recently Telemundo, were amongst some of the highest watched Television channels by Latinos. “NBC purchasing Telemundo” (Crossley 94) is an example of the power that American media companies have over Spanish media companies. American Television companies are buying out Spanish companies which have been a source of entertainment and information for Latinos for many years. As a result of this, there is a decrease of Latino participation in the media and American companies now have the freedom to control how Latinos a represented on their Television channels.
