I am American-Salvadorian. Primarily I was born in the United States; however, my parents were born and raised in El Salvador, tiny country in Central America that no one really knows about. Being born in America I am expected to be patriotic to my country, and just know about my four fathers that created this great nation. My parents beg to differ. They want me to learn about my roots. It starts by my home environment. Everything that is eaten in my house is all Salvadorian food. Such as pan con pollo, flan, etc. We have traditions that I believe can never be broken within my family. For example one tradition would happen every Christmas where we always eat pan con pollo. It all started with my great grandmother Petronila. That dish meant so much to my …show more content…
My family and I strong believers of the catholic religion. We all were raised by the catholic religion. There is an event in the religion called quaresima. Quaresima has the Latin word of Quadragesima which means forty days fast. American Catholics know this event by the name of Lent. In Lent we are to sacrifice/ promise to not eat a certain food whether it is chicken, red meat, chips, etc. to account for Jesus’s action in the forty days where the unholy one tempted him. After Lent the following event is la ultimo cena. Which means the last supper. This was based on the last supper that our savior Jesus Christ participated in before giving his life up for our sins. In the last supper according to the bible Jesus ate torta de pescado (fish). My family and I make torta de pescado to appreciate the sacrifice that was made many years

Intro: Food has shaped the world into what it is in the modern day, and food played a major role in the history of mankind. In An Edible History of Humanity, by Tom Standage, Standage focuses on how food has had an impact of food from when hunter-gatherers were around, to the present day. Standage’s goal is to teach the reader the overall importance of food in our world, more than just what it is to most people now, something that we eat to fuel ourselves, which usually tastes good. He wants to look beyond the eating aspect of the food and tell us the importance of it way before we were alive. His choice of teaching history based on food and food only is quite an interesting idea.…

A core issue in my life that has define me as a person is my Latino culture. I was born in Mexico in small town called “El Arrayan”. During that time my family was living in poverty and surviving in a day to day basis. Some days we didn’t even eat because we depended too much on the things that our substandard farm supplied us with. My father couldn’t deal with all the harsh conditions that were affecting our family and wanted a better future for us.…

Despite the surface level taste of food, there is a dimension of the past, the creator, and the soul put into making food.…

Place with a Memory Just like everyone in the United States of America, excluding Native Americans, I’m an immigrant and/or come from immigrant descendants. This means everyone has a race or ethnic group from which they descend from, and they may or may not follow the cultural aspects of their kin. For me, I am an immigrant who moved to the United States from Pakistan at the age of two (2002), so while my parents grew up with a great deal of culture and tradition, I did not; I only have what they attempted to affix on me. Being a first-generation immigrant, I grew up with all of my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents directly on the opposite side of the world from me, so to me my real family was only between me, my mom, my dad, and…

Ethics & Morality There are many different views throughout the Lutheran denomination of Christianity all over the world, regarding controversial issues such as homosexuality and abortion. For example, the Evangelical Churches in Germany and Sweden support same-sex relationships, while in Africa and Asia, Lutherans have a more conservative view and condemn these relationships as sinful. Disagreements about ordaining homosexual pastors into the Lutheran Church have led to breaking ties between developed and developing worlds. Growing up around food was always an interesting experience. Since both of my parents are from two different cultures, there was always a lot to choose from. Doing a Genogram about my family history, beliefs, and culture is somewhat difficult for me due to a number of reasons. One being that I never met my biological father therefore don’t know anything of the family background that compiles half of my genetic make up, another reason being because I know very little of my mother’s extended family, and frankly because I don’t think we really have many structured family beliefs. Before I dive into the cultural beliefs that my family has, let me quickly explain my family dynamic. My mother was one of two daughters. My aunt Debra moved to Texas before I was born and to this day I have never met her or anyone in her family.…
