Another thing that the two different denominations do not have in common is practices during lent. In both churches, Lent is the time between Ash Wednesday and Easter, the holiest day of the year, marking the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. During this time, it is expected for Roman Catholics to fast and sacrifice certain things because it is comparing the forty days of lent to the forty days that Jesus was challenged in the desert. I think that this helps people to understand that you should do the right things no matter what the circumstance is and by doing that you will be rewarded. In Roman Catholicism with the idea of purgatory, it gives the perception that if you do something wrong, you can just pay for it later and then forget about it because you will then go to heaven. A weakness that I believe the Lutheran denomination has is considering the bible as the only Holy thing. In my opinion, using items related to Christ or practicing events such as lent, are indeed holy because they can give you a better understanding of what Jesus did for the forgiveness of our sins and this understanding and appreciation can connect you deeper to your
