I am truly proud of where I come from and readily embrace that aspect of my background. What I have most difficult owning of my cultural identity is my ethnic background. Growing up I used to celebrate the Italian heritage of my dad and brothers. Since my skin is darker complected then everyone in my family. People used to tease me that I was Hispanic, or Arab. I used to counter this by telling everyone I was Italian anytime anyone asked. I spent most of my childhood being on the buttend of Italian “greaseball-dago” jokes.
