The transfer of learning is apparent in my practice, no longer do I just let groups form, and rather I strategically think about the desired outcome and select the best mix of personality types to approach the particular challenge. Understanding that the same group dynamics that work well in one set of circumstances may not service the organization well in all circumstances. If a situation is urgent and requires a rapid decision a group heavy on clarifiers might not be the best approach. Generally speaking again knowing the context of the challenge or opportunity may drive a different approach, if given the choice you want as diverse a group as possible to create as many different solutions as possible. I decided to take the business specialization class, I am heavy on the operations side but have little knowledge base on reading and interpreting financial statements and ratios. I’ve always seen it as a slight weakness and was happy for the opportunity to develop some knowledge of the financial aspect of the business. Here again the message of awareness, of 3EO was prevalent in his book Good to Great, Jim Collins the author writes of his “Hedgehog Concept. The “Hedgehog concept,” explained, is that your business must find the best of three circles: what you are deeply passionate about, what you can be the best in the world at, and what best drives your economic/resource engine. I’d like to think I apply this concept to my leadership model. I will be someone who is passionate about what I do and who I am, who excels at tasks in which I use my talents, and who is inclusive and resourceful in pursuing and obtaining the desired outcome whether I’m working on something individually, in a group or at the system

    Hedgehogs are by far, one of the ugliest sorts of creatures we take home as pets. Much like a rat, yet covered with long hair that makes them look spiked, hedgehogs are a bit more friendly and absolutely fat, often getting stuck on their large backs, flailing their short, stubby legs in every direction.
