To become a better communicator in today’s world, one must be able to communicate effectively. Yet, we face several challenges that makes us avoid speaking in situations requiring communication. Examples of these challenges are speech anxiety, inability to speak properly, and lack of confidence. Communication apprehension is one’s level of fear in communicating with others. This is measured by using the personal report of communication apprehension (PRCA-24), which measures an individual’s speaking ability. Statistics shows that people who have an apprehension level above 80 represent those with a high communication ability. I was able to score a 69 on the PRCA-24 test, which indicate I am average with my communication ability. The PRCA-24 …show more content…
Three important skills that are needed when working in groups are cooperation, and leadership. When I am around a small group, I have no fear in discussing with every member, compared to when I am in a larger group where I have issues speaking with everyone. In smaller groups, it is easier for me to pay attention to everyone’s idea. My ability to pay attention have helped me become a better listener, respond to other group members ideas with full understanding. To be involved in a small group, members of that group must have the ability to cooperate. When working with group, members must avoid conflict at all cost, because the group will lose focus and be unable to solve problems. Leadership is a necessity while working in groups, because the leader keeps the group on tract, assign the roles, and play the part of the role model. As a role model, I always give an opportunity to every member to express their mind freely, and I try to use constructive criticism with my group members. Group discussion is helpful in communication because of the skills you learn socializing with peers, which helps builds an individual’s interpersonal
