Conflict Strategies

Improved Essays
I have encountered many different types of conflict styles while working in groups. The conflict styles are competing, avoiding, and collaborating. For example, my current team has two individuals with two strong personalities who are clearly competing for who is always has the answer, who is always right, the first to speak, etc. There is a person on the team who does not participate in coming up with ideas to help make our team have a boost in moral. This person does not speak up and when asked a question, they shrug their shoulders. The rest of the team fall under the style of collaborating by taking in to the consideration all of the needs, wants, and feelings of everyone in the group. This way the group can consider the outcome together. …show more content…
These strategies offer support and trust amongst each other. This trust and support can lead to individual development. For example, someone who avoids conflict may try to speak up and try becoming a collaborator. Agreeable goals can be met that have clear objectives and everyone knows their part. Recognition can help strengthen group work, for example, by shedding light on an idea or achievement for a job well done. This person is gaining self-confidence and self-esteem, and it may be the positive push this individual needed to get them moving in the right direction. Group work is strengthened by group decisions, a consensus rules mentality.
There are two decision making styles that I use. These decision making styles are intuitive and dependent. I say intuitive because most of the time I go with my gut instinct. I have a strong feeling of what is inside me and how to listen to that feeling in order to make a decision. I prefer to work alone, because the environment is unstructured, I can work at my own pace, and do things my own way. I also use the dependent decision making style, because I do find that sometimes I want the opinions of others, to feel that I need the support and encouragement to let me know I am doing a good

Being able to ask those important questions and giving a response as to why. Being intuitive is being an independent thinker. Being dependent is someone who wants to know the opinions, ideas, and seeks the help and support from others. Intuitive decision making can be used in future group work when there is a decision that has to made immediately that is of low importance and of little consequence. For example, the type of coffee you have every day because it is good. It is a fast decision that is neither important or of little consequence. Intuitive decision making can also be used when speed is a factor such as, an ambulance deciding who to respond to first in a multi car accident. A dependent style can be used in group work when others opinions of others is needed and supported. For example, if everyone in the group had their own part of a team project, before turning it in, the opinion of everyone in the group would be

There are several modes of communication that can be enacted to solve group issues. Among them are the defensive mode, the compromise mode, and the creative problem solving mode. In defensive mode some people feel they are winning and others will feel they are losing. This mode is used to gain time, ease off the situation, and give thought to solutions. The group members in the conflict can be separate, people can choose not to speak about anything, or come to an understanding that a conflict exists and review the issues (Huber, 2014).…

1 Communication changes us in many ways, it helps us resolve conflict, state our opinion, and it helps with our mental health. The way it helps us resolve conflict is by allowing us to openly talk about the issues we have with whoever/whatever is causing the conflict to occur, this allows us to find a way to resolve the issue and move forward. By stating our opinion, we can give others ideas on a task at hand, or just being openly creative. The way it helps with out mental health is it lets us discuss our problems, it’s never good to keep emotions bottled up inside, if we do it can have a huge impact on our mental state. The more we communicate the better we understand what people are going through, or if they have anyissues with someone,…

Describing their job description would be to include how they are more laid back operating in a relaxed environment; which happens to be completely opposite of the Cricket Wireless Advocates.…

Conflicting Theories Two theories presented within the literature on the independent impacts of gender and religion respectively seem to conflict with each other. Various authors made the argument that it is a widely-observed phenomenon for staunch Republican women to vote Democrat when having the choice between a man and woman candidate. This seemingly counters the argument made by religious cleavage scholars that state that women who vote for right-wing parties are typically motivated by religious interest due to contention with left-wing social policies. Both theories could be applicable, however there are a few notable explanations that can be presented for either side.…
