Jesus is the man who saved us from our sins by dying on the cross and suffering the many temptations that he encountered. Who is Jesus according to the Gospel of Mark? In the beginning of chapter one of the Gospel of Mark he introduces John the Baptist and all his works. Thereafter, as the chapter progresses Mark starts to talk about how Jesus and John the Baptist encountered each other. The chapter first talks about how John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus. Then it starts to talk about all the different miracles Jesus had done. Also, the acts that he done shows that he is the Son of God.
In the Gospel of Mark, Isaiah the prophet he says, “a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.” (Mark 1:3) John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness and proclaimed a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. All the people of Jerusalem went out to him and confessed their sins. He then baptized everyone of them in the Jordan River, located in Israel. He wore a robe made of camel hair and a leather belt. His message to the people was, “ After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and tie. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” (Mark 1:7, 1:8) In his saying he talks about the journey of Jesus becoming something greater than John the Baptist.
