James has internalized negative and maladaptive thoughts about himself such as being “dumb” and being a “failure”. James would benefit from being diagnosed, he has been feeling low for about 3 years and does mention that he wants his old life back. He wants to become that social character again, the person that interacts with people, attends events with friends and joins activities that he enjoys. It seems that he really wants to see a change in himself and in his character, because he did once enjoy that company of people and doing the things that he loved. Being diagnosed can give him the hope of being that person once again in the future. If James gets referred to a psychologists, they will gradually assist him into getting his life back, which would be beneficial towards him, if he wants his old self
