Farmer is suffering from major depressive disorder. I have come to this conclusion because Mr. Farmer is displaying multiple symptoms of depression. These include changes in appetite, inability to sleep well, a feeling of excessive guilt, feeling tired all the time, loss of pleasure from activities he once enjoyed and suicidal thoughts. It has been noted in Mr. Farmer’s file that he has not been going to the bar with his friends lately, and he has been waking up very early in the morning and starting work then because he has not been able to fall back asleep. The guilt that Mr. Farmer is feeling about not being able to keep his farm afloat and letting his family down are a strong indicator for depression. In Mr. Farmer’s history it states that he is having trouble with his wife and feels like he is letting her down, because of this I would suggest that Mr. Farmer goes to therapy. I think that he should attend both supportive therapy to help him figure out how to get back on track with his farm, but also couples therapy so that he and his wife can help each other and talk. I would also suggest that the doctor prescribe Mr. Farmer with a type of antidepressant called a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI)(“Depression (major Depressive Disorder)”). Although the first type of antidepressant often does not work as effectively as it should, I would suggest starting with an SSRI because they are
