Interdependence: The Practice Of Empathic Communication

Interdependence is the way two or more individuals interact with one another to produce a successful outcome. The foundation of an interdependent relationship is established in the knowledge that, in order to have a successful outcome the ideas and opinions of each individual have to be adequately expressed and understood. Interdependent relationships have to express empathic listening, which involves the practice of truly taking in what your peer or parent/child is telling you and not automatically exercising a predefined response that relates strictly to the personal experiences of the listener. The practice of empathic communication allows for the development of a more trusted and valued relationship in which each individual can express themselves openly with each other without the fear of their conversation being ridiculed and repeated without their consent. Teamwork is the interdependent cooperation of two or more individuals who are seeking to accomplish a goal. The idea behind teamwork is that each individual brings something different to the group that allows for a deeper discussion or action that results in a positive outcome for the team. However, the negative connotation associated with teamwork is a lack of true understanding within the group or that one individual will control the whole.
