Nevertheless, communication still has a great impact on both the organizational and personal level and is an important research area in human resource management and marketing. From a marketing perspective, internal communication ensures that objectives are shared and information are exchanged across the business and among all employees (Welch & Jackson, 2007). For employees, communication is a great way to express emotions, feelings and ideas whereas managers need it to effectively get information across (GenSpring Family Offices, 2015). In human resource management, communication is used to improve organisational success and managers’ effectiveness (Kalla, 2005). Adendorff, Venter and Boshoff (2008, p. 31) agreed that communication is a very effective way of understanding sensitive business issues and as a result, minimize conflict due to misunderstandings. However, authors also indicate that family businesses most likely attempt to push emotional and sensitive matters aside as it is still considered to be a critical topic leading to imbalances within the business.
