Tom Robinson was a black man …show more content…
Bob Ewell wants to do as much harm as he possibly can to Atticus because of how Atticus has defended Tom in the case and how it had damaged his reputation. Bob wants to hurt either directly or indirectly and he does succeed but in doing so, he died. “’this morning Mr. Bob Ewell stopped Atticus on the post office corner, spat in his face, and told him he’d get him if it took the rest of his life.’” (Lee 290). This quote shows that Bob is determined in ruining Atticus’s life and wants to take revenge because of how the community thinks of him and that they know that even though the outcome was in bobs favor that Tom was an innocent man. This shows injustice towards Atticus because Atticus did not sign up to defend Tom but was appointed. Atticus defended Tom as if he was his brother and did the best he could which included having Bobs true personality being revealed to the audience in the court room. But the effect it has on Atticus is not as much as Bb would have thought it was. “’I destroyed his last shred of credibility at that trial, if he had any to begin with. […] so if spitting in my face and threatening me saved Mayella Ewell one extra beating, that’s something I’ll gladly take.’” (Lee 292-293). “Boo was about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that’s why his hands were bloodstained […]. There was a long jagged Scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten[...]. (Lee 16). This is injustice because what others say about Boo are all rumors and Scouts learns about that, that isn’t the case at the end of the book when Boo saves her life from Bob Ewell who was determined at doing harm to Atticus. This effects Boo Radley because eye doesn’t want to leave his house and also doesn’t want anybody to see him because he doesn’t want to keep his distance away from all the negative impacts and negativity that society has to offer. Boo also faces injustice by his family because when Boo’s brother, Nathan Radley, cements the hole he knew that Boo was giving ‘gifts’ to Jem and Scout. “‘did you put cement in that hole in that tree down yonder?’ ‘Yes,’ he said. ‘I filled it up.’ […] ‘Tree’s dying. You plug’em with cement when they’re sick […]’” (Lee 83). This shows that Nathan doesn’t want the kids to worry about there being cement in the hole and that it was to stop the sickness. Nathan might also have done this to protect Boo from being accused about something he didn’t do due to the rumors about his previous
