The statistical analysis of the responses resulted in the ultimate finding that both stress resiliency and psychological empowerment were the most significant predictors of RN job satisfaction and resiliency in the work place. By enhancing stress resiliency, psychological empowerment can, in turn, be increased, leading to a higher percentage of intent to stay among registered nurses. Therefore, it may be useful for psychological empowerment training programs to be considered as a widespread guidance strategy to help nurses learn to maintain good mental health and better understand how psychological empowerment could help contribute being a resilient nurse.
I felt that this article was directly related to my thesis in that it focused on what characteristics can help nurses achieve resiliency; however, I thought that its multiple subtopics of the study made it confusing as to what specifically was being tested and how the researchers came to find these useful results. I also wish the researchers would have included specific methods of attaining psychological empowerment so that I could have learned what strategies proficient nurses utilize to be resilient in the …show more content…
The data collected found that these independent variables, specifically emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, were important predictors of job outcomes and quality of patient care. Nurses that demonstrated resiliency were less likely to receive patient/family complaints, make errors when dealing with patients, and provided an overall better quality of care. All the while, these nurses that exhibited resiliency and the positive nurse work characteristics also showed higher retention rates and reported more positive responses when asked about their satisfaction with their position. Therefore, this study proved that maintaining a stable work force through depersonalization and minimizing emotional exhaustion are key factors in achieving superior quality of employed nurses as well as favorable patient safety
