The peak was so high up, but I was determined to climb it and retrieve the lost item, whether I survived or not. As I stood on the stairs with my cousins, all of us arguing about who would scale the gigantic feat. This I saw as a challenge and I accepted. Trials and challenges are viewed, by most, as obstacles that are in the way to slow us down. These may come in the form of people we meet or the things they say. The challenges and trials can also be events that happen or even the circumstances of a situation. Trials and challenges we face are more like bridges than boulders. They help us along our path of life, making us stronger and stronger each time we climb across a bridge. Most people will avoid challenges and trials, but I face them head-on. My cousins and I walked to an extension of the house on the stairs. Above the stairs was a ledge, similar to a patio filled with boxes, suitcases, and containers. “My eraser is up there,” my cousin said. “Where?” I said. “Behind all that stuff” “I'll get it,” I said and started the climb up the stairs then onto a skinny ledge. My eagerness to accept challenges in hopes of adventure was apparent even when I was very young. I was born and raised in southern Arizona, in Ahwatukee. I also was raised in the LDS church or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Being born part black and a Mormon brought many stereotypes and opposition. In society, it is believed to be unusual for an African American to be a Mormon, let alone be very successful. I grew up ignorant of these stereotypes and prejudice thoughts that others had of me. I was brought up in my faith and my parents taught me to strive for greatness and success. As I became older, however, my ignorance began to fade and I became more and more aware of what was going
