1.0 Introduction
Campbell (2007) agrees that the moral and ethical principles of professional conduct that conform to teaching profession include ethics, accountability and integrity. Ethics is the basic principles of the right action and rules of conduct (Chapman, 1993). Halfon (1989) describes integrity in terms of a person’s dedication to the pursuit of a moral life and their intellectual responsibility in seeking to understand the demands of such life. On the other hand, accountability is an ethical concept concerns proper behaviour, and it deals with the responsibilities of individuals and organisations for their actions towards other people (Bovens, 2005). From all the definition discussed above, all these moral standards can be termed as professional moral standards.

A teacher who is disseminating the values in a lesson also need to show explicit application of them in the classroom in order to establish conducive classroom environment (Lovat, 2006). For instance, the topic “Unity in Diversity” may not only discuss the importance of tolerance in the country but also on how a pupil should show tolerance in the classroom. The integrity part of the professional moral standards will also always encourage teachers to find common values such as diligent and kindness in every pupil to encourage them to mix around freely in the classroom through activities that encourage togetherness in the lesson. The common values help to establish a classroom learning environment that is free from social prejudice and discrimination (Bennet, 2007). A moral-fused classroom environment certainly discourage misbehaviours among pupils and promote effective learning. In short, the above arguments suggest to teachers of high professional moral standards to balance content knowledge and moral values in a lesson for effective lesson and positive pupils’
