This makes sure that every decision I make is in the best interest of the students that I teach. This means that I won’t be tempted to solicit students or parents of students to buy equipment, supplies, or services from me or to participate in activities that I would personally benefit from. This principle also means that I won’t accept gifts that might impair my professional judgment or as a way for others to garner special treatment. The professional conduct principle encourages that I develop and maintain high standards, respect fellow educators, and participate in a professional teaching environment. Engaging in a variety of individual and collaborative learning experiences keeps my skill set on-track with being able to promote student learning that is rigorous and standard driven. I am to teach students how to problem solve and persevere when the task at hand seems impossible. It also means that I am highly qualified regarding subject matter and pedagogical practices. This principle also influences me to not mistreat colleagues, misuse tests, not use inappropriate language on school grounds, and to provide correct supervision of students, and to reasonably discipline students. The educator/student relationship principle reminds me that I am to fulfill the role of being an advocate and mentor for students in a professional manner. In this role I am to express concern, empathy, and encouragement for my students. I also am given the task of nurture the intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and civic potential of all my students. Public ridicule and shaming are to be frowned upon as an educator regarding this principle. I am to model respect and equality for every student.
