Without the ability to compile and leverage data to make a strong business case, the refurbishment program might never have achieved its full potential. To date, my engineering experience, undergraduate education, and Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification have all provided me with specific knowledge of, and experience with, component design, evaluation, and manufacturing. I now intend to pursue my MBA at Harvard to capitalize on what I have learned in order to help companies with significant and strategic business decisions. The Harvard core curriculum, including “Financial Reporting and Control” and “Finance”, will provide me with an understanding of the fundamental data that informs executive level business decisions. What especially attracts me to Harvard, however, is that beyond the foundational courses in the core curriculum, there are exciting electives dealing with behavioral science and psychology. Classes such as “The Arts of Communication” with Dr. McCarthy and “Negotiation” with Professor Mohan, will help me use interpersonal dynamics and strategic intuition to effectively communicate my thoughts, engage others and lead accordingly. I would also hope to leverage the access provided through the Management Consulting Club. This club should not only allow me to learn through the various speaker series, but also to benefit from case interview workshops. Through the hosted career panels, I hope to be able to better understand the goals, positioning, and culture of consulting firms. This information and understanding will be invaluable to me when looking to achieve my short-term goal of succeeding as a management consultant. During my review, I was encouraged to learn that Harvard provides a good gateway to part-time work and pro-bono for its students. I hope to put the knowledge gained from my coursework to use through opportunities such as the Board Fellows & Social Enterprise Consulting Club. While this opportunity will allow me to gain important practical experience in my desired field, it will also provide me with a chance to give back to the community. That is something that has always been very important to me. While at Villanova I was able to build relationships through participation in the school’s service & justice experiences. …show more content…
These were week long trips where you served with people and partner organizations that work daily to improve the lives of those less fortunate. My first trip was to Laredo, TX to work with Habitat for Humanity. Having the opportunity to work alongside the future homeowners was the most rewarding thing I have done in my life. Hearing their stories and understanding how they connected with Habitat for Humanity was something I wish everyone could experience. Upon returning to Villanova I shared my story and wanted to participate in as many future trips as possible. I would later go to Lexington, KY, Miguel Aleman, Mexico and was able to organize, plan and lead my own group of students to Slidell, LA. These service experiences have helped to shape me as a person. I regularly reflect on them and see how they influence my actions. It may be something as small as talking to someone in need, donating food to the local food pantry, or helping with community fundraisers, but I know it all makes a difference. As part of my application process, I have contacted current a HBS student, Bradley Glenn (’18). The passion that underlies his comments about Harvard and the experiences
