Personal Narrative: My Trip To The Dominican Republic

In eleventh grade, my class and I went on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. I was very excited to go. It would be my first time traveling out of the country. I knew not many people have the opportunity to travel to a foreign country, so I was very thankful for this opportunity. I knew the trip was going to fun, but it was more than fun. It was life changing, and I will remember it forever. The trip had a somewhat pleasant start for me. Although I had to wake up at 3:00 in the morning to get to the terminal at the Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport around 5:30 in the morning, I thoroughly enjoyed the morning because a stranger was kind enough to inform me that I dropped my wallet. Had the stranger not returned my wallet, I would have been highly upset for the rest of the trip. The plane ride itself took over two hours. When we touched down at the Punta Cana …show more content…
It was difficult for all of my classmates, including myself, to talk to them in Spanish, but as we progressed through the week, it became much easier. After the Bible study, we traveled to Las Palmas Christian School where we assisted the children and teachers there. The children loved to see the Caucasian people in my class because mostly everyone in the Dominican Republic is darker skinned. All of the children at the school would literally surround them trying to touch their hair. After lunch we worked in the field owned by Iglesia Bautista Evangélica de Macorís, which was a soon to be a baseball field and student dormitory. We did almost the exact same thing on the third and fourth day. After working hard each day, we always settled down to a nice lunch and an even better dinner. The food was amazing. I literally thanked them seven times on average each meal. Every meal consisted of rice and salad and whatever the main dish
