An analysis has been done to pinpoint a potential customer for Wolfe & Swickard in a new industry. The target market consists of small companies in the defense contracting industry. Migrating into this target market will open up a new potential product line for Wolfe & Swickard’s extensive part library. The parts demanded by the target market and Victoria, the target markets persona, are in conjunction with contracts and plans implemented by the government to complete armored military combat vehicle orders. Contracts will include a specified amount granted by the government to contribute to the build and maintenance of these vehicles. From the engineering aspect, the differential pinion bearing needs to keep friction at the minimum for increased efficiency. Differentials are important to maintain axle in a working order when the wheels in vehicle are making a left or right turn. Differential pinion bearing are available in different depths. The ideal depth of a pinion bearing for a military vehicle would be around 10 in.-11 in.. Pinion bearing is attached to a ring gear that has a diameter of almost 10.38 in. and the pinion should settle with the ring gear perfectly. The differential pinion should atleast have 31 pinion shaft spline count. Pinion bearings have a top that is shaped in a cone. The width of this cone is approximately 1.5 in. Pinions can weigh between 2-4 lbs, depending on the vehicle. The main raw material requirement for differential pinion bearing is steel. There are no other metals or compounds added with steel to manufacture pinion bearings. The manufacturing undergoes a heat treatment process that produces a surface that is resistant to erosion.
